The Australian Government is on a path to digital transformation. Bringing with it a significant shift from legacy systems to modern systems, and hence growing its data capturing and storage capabilities. The growth and abundance of data make it vulnerable to threats and cyber-attacks. The Australian Signals Directorate’s (ASD) Annual Cyber Threat Report for 2022-23 reported a 23% increase in reports of cybercrime in the financial year.

In an increasingly digital world, securing cyber infrastructure is paramount. As the threats continue to grow, the NSW Government recognises the imperative to equip its employees and take substantial steps to enhance its cyber security practices.

Some of the key initiatives of Cyber Security New South Wales include:

  • Comprehensive Risk Assessments: Regular risk assessments identify vulnerabilities and prioritise resources towards the most critical areas, ensuring that security measures are effective and efficient.
  • Security Awareness and Training: Recognising that human error is a significant factor in many cyber incidents, the NSW government invests in continuous cybersecurity training and awareness programs for its employees. These programs are designed to cultivate a culture of security mindfulness across all levels of government.
  • Advanced Threat Detection and Response: Leveraging cutting-edge technologies, the NSW government has enhanced its capabilities in threat detection and incident response. Tools such as artificial intelligence and machine learning are employed to identify and mitigate threats in real time.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: The NSW government works closely with federal agencies, private sector partners, and international organisations to share intelligence and best practices. This collaborative approach enhances the state's ability to respond swiftly and effectively to cyber threats.

The upcoming NSW Cyber Showcase on the 3rd of October will be a day of important discussions encompassing the above. For more information or to reserve your spot, please head to the event website.
